Northfork Preservation Solstice Dinner 2025
Winter Solstice Ski + Fire Feast
On the longest night, when the mountains cast their deep shadows across the valley and the forest lies hushed beneath snow, our people come together. We gather as those before us once did — to honor the turning of the year, to feed the fire, and to remind ourselves that light is never lost.
The elk move quietly in the timber, the wolf sings to the moon, and the river runs dark beneath its frozen skin. Yet in the heart of winter, we kindle flame. Around the fire we prepare a feast — lamb raised by neighbors, roots pulled from the earth, berries gathered from the mountainside. The meal is not just food; it is offering, tradition, and bond.
We ski through the quiet woods, our breath rising like smoke, carrying us deeper into the rhythm of the season. When we return, we gather in the warmth of firelight, share stories, and lift our hearts to the land, to one another, and to the unbroken promise that even in the coldest dark, light returns.
This is the Winter Solstice Ski + Fire Feast: a communion of wild and human, of darkness and flame. A reminder that here, in Montana’s north country, we carry the light of one another — and it will always guide us home.
